Since we’re about halfway through the challenge, I thought this would be a good time to take stock of how you’ve been doing. Let’s take a look at your posts, comments, subscribers and of course, go back to good ‘ol Google Analytics and see what’s what. Use August 1-15 as the time period for all of the metrics below
- Number of posts you’re written
- Number of blog comments you’ve received
- Number of blog subscribers, if applicable
- Number of visits
- Number of pageviews
- Bounce rate (shows the percentage of people who leave your site almost immediately)
- Average time on site
- Traffic sources (shows which sites are sending you the most traffic)
- Keywords (found in the traffic sources section – shows which terms are people using to get to your blog)
- Most popular posts (found in the content overview section)
Your assignment is to take a look at each of these ten metrics and blog about your results or post a comment about what you learned from looking at them. How do they compare to your blog’s metrics from the same time period during July 1-15? If you blog about today’s challenge, please post the link in the comments section!
Note: Please tag your posts with “31bnb” to make them easier to share with us.

thanks for the tip.
oops
Just an FYI for all the wordpress.com bloggers in the challenge. I found a stat counter that is compatible with wordpress that will give you the #of unique visitors, average time on site and bounce rate (all of which the wordpress stats don't show). It's called StatCounter (statcounter.com) and I verified via the wordpress support that it is okay to use. I installed it on my blog (using the invisible setting) today and will keep you posted.
Okay, so I am super duper late for this one!! But better late than never!! Still fully committted to the challenge!! I am pretty pleased with my results, except for the bounce rate.

Ok, good point
Creating my own niche is somewhere I definitely want to be! I just don't want to pigeonhole myself so I can't be found, you know?
It's more like what are you doing right?! With your focusing in on “panache” as part of the brand of your blog, you can eventually capitalize on that keyword and create your own niche around it. No one searched for “problogger” in Google until the popular blog problogger.net made it a buzz word for search engines. Maybe your “panache” brand will do the same!
Remember, I didn't really have a baseline… so it'll be interesting to see how these numbers change in the next couple weeks!
1. Number of posts I've written: 8
2. Number of blog comments I've received: 22
3. Number of blog subscribers: 10 ~ Not much movement here… but I'm probably getting some lurkers who visit on their own vs. through a subscription.
4. Number of visits: 198
5. Number of pageviews: 472
6. Bounce rate: 54.55%
7. Average time on site: 00:02:55
8. Traffic sources: 20.20% direct, 79.29% referring, 0.51% search engines
9. Key words: employed panache blogspot ~ ?!?!??!?!??
10. Most popular posts: Creating Panache, How to Add Panache to Your Office Wardrobe, 5 Ways to Make a Great Impression, and 31 Days (this page!) ~ Looks like Rosetta really knows her stuff… list posts and how to's definitely bring in the traffic!
Ok so what I take away from this is that I need to do something major to fall under broader key words! Help please… what am I doing wrong??
1.Number of posts you’re written: 2
2.Number of blog comments you’ve received: 6
3.Number of blog subscribers, if applicable: 2

6.Bounce rate (shows the percentage of people who leave your site almost immediately): n/a on WordPress

8.Traffic sources: WordPress shows “referrers”. So far it's an odd collection of sites that don't really relate to my blog topics. Strange! Must investigate.
9.Keywords: Top searches this week: Sculpture garden, dallas, museum antiquity, now what, united visual artists
10.Most popular posts: how to visit an art museum, funky love, needle in a haystack, nonprofit nerd reads.
This tells me that I need to self-host and get Google analytics STAT.
Great one! Glad to have time to look back and reflect on progress!

I like this assignment because I was planning on doing something similar myself. Here is my post: http://www.artiatesiadeal.com/just-bloggin/blog…
I have to say that since starting the challenge I've gotten WAY more comments…probably because I have more fresh content more often.
Number of posts you’ve written:8
Number of blog comments you’ve received: 30
Number of visits 62 (i just switched over to google analytics after moving my blog to it's own host)
Number of pageviews: 98
Bounce rate (shows the percentage of people who leave your site almost immediately) 75%
Average time on site: 1:50
Traffic sources (shows which sites are sending you the most traffic): Twitter, hootsuite, womanist-musings.com, ourhealthmovement.blogspot.com (this last one is mostly because of my post about depression a few days ago)
Keywords (found in the traffic sources section – shows which terms are people using to get to your blog): n/a
Most popular posts (found in the content overview section):

So I have to preface all of my results by saying that being Freshly Pressed had a whole lot to do with my insane numbers…but I will take them none the less.
My blog is 45 days old (launched June 29th) and I am super happy with my numbers.
# of Posts = 11
# of Comments = 110
# of Blog Subscribers = 15
# of Visits = N/A
# of Page Views = 3869
Bounce rate = N/A
Average time on site = N/A
Traffic sources = wordpress.com ; tashination.com ; twitter.com/Ronnie6676
Keywords = love the way you lie (feat. rihanna); one eskimo kandi…sounds like; number 13 auspicious

Like I stated above I know the jump in views and comments were mostly a product of freshly pressed however I am happy to see that some of those readers have returned and continue to comment. I also noticed that some added me to their blogrolls and other things which drive traffice back to my site.
I'm proud of myself for posting as much as I do, almost daily. And I am also surprised to see that one of my top referring sites is one that I have never written for. I have to make sure to leave a comment for the blogger thanking them for the support.
This challenge has been great thus far…the feedback and ideas is really great and I'm psyched to see what happens in the next 2 weeks.
So, my blog just started around July 20th, so I compared August 1st-15th performance to July 20th-July 31st.
I've only posted two posts in each of those time periods (even though the Aug 1-15th time period is slightly longer), and this is a big place where I need to improve because without content, what's the point of driving traffic to my blog?
However, I have gotten significantly more traffic/engagement in the past couple weeks. I had only four comments starting out by the end of July, and I've had 9 comments in August. I also only had about 3 subscribers in July and now the number is up to 11. My number of visits and pageviews are also up with 264 unique views (a 75% increase) and 157 unique visitors (a whopping 125% increase).
A lot of this traffic is due to my mention by one of the physicians on twitter in my healthcare and social media post. I can tell because my average pageviews / visitor and bounce rate has gone slightly down – to 1.72 pages/visit and a 61% bounce rate. However, this difference is only an about 20% difference, so I'm not to worried about it. Even though it's not my most recent post, the healthcare and social media post remains the most popular post by far besides my main page.
I'm getting less and less direct traffic (down to about 40%) and twitter remains my main referrer, bringing me about 20% of my traffic. Facebook brings in about 10% of traffic. Other websites (including this one) account for the remaining 30-ish%. Search engines and RSS feeds remain at only about 2%.
As for keywords, I have already talked about how @EndoGoddess' search for her name has driven a lot of traffic to my site. I also got some traffic from a relatively recent search for “i want to be a doctor help people” which makes me pretty happy.
So, all in all, a good month so far, but I need more content!
